Chronological CV
The Chronological C.V.
The chronological C.V. lists positions by date beginning with the most recent. Emphasis is placed on recent experience rather than past history and usually a progression in responsibility is evident. Each job listing should show: company name and location, dates of employment, job title(s), main responsibilities and key achievements.
Advantages:
- This is an easy C.V. to organise. For many years this has been the standard format and is the most familiar
- It shows progress made in your field of specialisation as well as increasing responsibility
- If you have been in one company for a long time, it shows stability.
Disadvantages:
- If you have changed jobs frequently, it shows instability and will require explanation.
- Any gaps in employment stand out
- If you have changed professions or career directions, it may raise questions about your real goals
- Your key achievements are buried in different job situations, preventing focus on your real talents.
- If your last position was not an important one in your career, you may be associated with it anyway.
